Fourteen traders of Building Material Market, Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State home last Wednesday smiled home as the management of the market splashed half a million naira each on them to help them restart their businesses.
The president of the market, Chief Jude Nwankwo, who himself handed over the cheque advised them to use the money judiciously.
He prayed that with the seed money they would prosper beyond limit.
The president also presented food items and cash to some motherless babies home and physically challenged persons at the event.
Nwankwo used the ocassion to call on the traders of the market to strive to collect their Permanet Voters Card (PVC) and vote according to their conscience in the next year’s general election.
” Don’t collect their rice but if you must collect, vote according to your conscience. Don’t vote according to the inducement of their greek gifts” said the market leader.
He lamented that bad leadership led to the insecurity in the country and South East in particular, saying that people should use their votes to vote out bad leaders in the coming election.
He said : “Even if it is well with you, what of your children and grand children. So, go and collect your PVC and vote according to your conscience on the election day”.
He assured that by early next year the activities of touts who invade their market to collect tax would be resolved with the State
Government, saying that the method of collecting the tax in the market is not acceptable to them.
Chief Nwankwo however appealed to the traders to pay their tax as and when due so that the State Government can see enough money for the development of the State.
He vowed that touts would not be allowed into the market as it constitue security threat to the traders .
Nwankwo also warned that smoking of any type tabocco is not allowed in the market to avoid fire.
Earlier in his message the guest speaker, Brother Benard Eze, .warned on the danger of inordinate pursuit for money, which he said is a ” trap and destroyer”
He lamented the death of truth and its replacement due to people’s quest for money and crass materialism.
” If you bring it, they will clap for you.Money is not evil but the love of it can cause pain. What is the gain having all the money but loses your life” he said.
He lauded Chief Nwankwo for the way he brought people together to thank God and empower the poor in their midst.
Brother Eze was also elated in the way the Building Material Market is blossoming but stated that the reality of life is that every one must give his/her soul to God.
The high points of the ocassion was the appointment of some people in the market as the members of Board of Trustees (BoT) and Christmas Carol and Nine lessons by the Choir of St. Monica Anglican Church, Woliwo.
